Best Spanish Drinks for Summer Months
There are plenty of refreshing drinks that you can try in the summertime, but why not try one that’s a little different?
1. Hibiscus Lemonade

Hibiscus lemonade is a great drink for a hot day! Not only is it refreshing, but you can fill it with fruit and it has a great tart flavor.
Make 6 servings of this by combining the following ingredients:
- One hand of hibiscus tea
- 1 liter of water
- 1 liter of sparkling water
- 3 tbsp sugar
- Lime slices
- Blueberries
There are variations on this recipe, so look out for the one that sounds perfect for you.
2. Horchata de Chufa

Horchata is a popular drink in both Mexico and Spain. But they are not the same beverage. Mexican horchata is rice based.
While Spanish horchata uses chufa as it’s main ingredient.
To properly make horchata de chufa you’ll obviously need chufa (also referred to as yellow nutsedge or tiger nuts), cinnamon, water and a blender.
The horchata de chufa recipe is easy but you’ll need some patience as the tiger nuts will need to soak over night before preparation.
Horchata de chufa is creamy and tastes like dessert in a glass.
It’s refreshing in its own unique way.
3. Classic Spanish Sangria

Spanish Sangria is a popular drink that will bring your drab summer days alive.
The perfect combination of a delicious Spanish red wine and a medley of assorted chopped fruits will turn any get together into a fun and unforgettable fiesta!
The sangria recipe is quite simple yet the result is a refreshing libation that defines summer good times.
4. Sangria de Cava

Sangria de Cava is a fancy version of the traditional Spanish drink (sangria) and can be a great drink to make for gatherings of friends and family.
It’s main ingredient is Cava, which is sparkling spanish wine.
To make a pitcher of this drink, you mix:
- 1/2 cup of Cointreau
- 1 bottle of chilled Cava
- 1 cup of sparkling water
- 2 or 3 cups of assorted berries and pineapple
The secret to a great sangria is to chill all the ingredients before adding them. This goes great with another refreshing Summer food, such as Argentine Fruit Salad.
5. Clara con Limón or Lemon Beer

The lemonade beer is a drink that goes by many names depending on what part of Spain you are in.
Most of Spain will refer to it as Clara con Limón. Outside of Spain many will refer and compare it to a Shandy.
It’s also really easy to make! Simply mix 1/2 cup of lager beer and 1/2 cup of sparkling lemonade and you’ve got it.
You can also use Spain famous Kas Limón or another Spanish lemon soda if desired.
6. Tinto de Verano

Tinto de Verano means Summer Red.
It’s truly a refreshing cocktail that can be enjoyed all year long but most popular during the summer. It is similar to Spain’s classic sangria.
To make this drink you’ll need two equal parts of red wine and lemon-lime soda.
Or to make it less sweet you can use seltzer water.
It is very easy to make, as you just need two ingredients and a thirst for fun!
7. Agua de Valencia

This is a festive Spanish beverage that you can make with Cava, orange juice, vodka, and gin.
A lot of people think that this is a new twist on a classic mimosa and that it represents the sunny coast of Valencia.
To make this drink, you need to combine:
- 1 cup of orange juice
- 1/2 cup Cava
- 2 oz vodka
- 2 oz gin
Put all of this into a large pitcher and mix it. Serve it with ice and very cold!
8. Calimocho

Calimocho (kalimotxo in Basque) is red wine mixed half and half with cola and poured over plenty of ice.
The popular story traces it to a 1972 fiesta in Algorta, near Bilbao, and it is still the drink of choice at summer street parties across northern Spain.
Use a young, inexpensive red, since oaky wine clashes with the cola, and add a squeeze of lemon if you like it brighter.
Like tinto de verano, it takes about a minute to make.
